MARK ABBOTT (Drums)

Raised by a pack of wolves in the Steppes of Eastern Europe, and educated at Sorbonne, drummer Mark Abbott speaks seven languages and has just finished translating the Kama Sutra into Serbo- Croatian. In 1987, he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth for his undying commitment to humanitarian causes. He now dedicates his life to drumming in BOX SET.

JIM BRUNBERG (Vocals, Guitars, trumpet)

Jim has been playing music since he picked up his father's banjo when he was eight years old. In high school his dream was to become the next Loudon Wainwright III, but it wasn't until his post-college/slacker funk days that he started writing songs. Shortly after moving to San Francisco in 1989, Jim was playing the local coffeehouses and was spotted by Jeff Pehrson. They started playing together as a duo, and formed the full band two years later in 1993.

CHAD HEISE (Bass)

Hailing from Vermont, Chad started playing guitar in High School, and first picked up his roommate's bass while studying at the University of Vermont. While in school, he played in a Reggae/African band called Motel Brown, and then in Slackdog Dynamite. After moving to San Francisco, he joined BOX SET, and after recording the first CD moved back to Vermont to play with the newly reformed Motel Brown. After months of being emotionally torn between the two coasts, Chad finally decided to return to San Francisco and BOX SET. Ask him sometime how he made that decision.

SAM JOHNSTON (Hammond B-3, keyboards, harmonica)

Sam Johnston has been a fixture of the San Francisco music scene since 1988. Beginning in 1983, he toured and recorded with Mojo Bone, Cheater Jones, Buffalo Roam, and the Vicious Hippies before joining Box Set in 1995. Versed in blues and funk, Sam also draws on his classical roots, including conducting his elementary school orchestra in the sixth grade and blasting the trombone at his high school teachers.

JEFF PEHRSON (Vocals, acoustic guitar)

Jeff is a Bay Area native, born in the Haight\Ashbury District and raised, across the Bay Bridge, in San Leandro. He wrote his first song at 8, a rip-off of C.W. McCall's "Convoy", and found himself jonesing for a life of truck stop food, broken promises and the occasional musical performance. After a long (and highly unsuccessful) stint at San Francisco State University, several garage bands and one pre-written improvisation troupe, Jeff met Jim at Simple Pleasures Coffee shop and Box Set was born.
